The city of Blumenau was founded in 1850 by immigrants from Germany, who established a significant German influence through architecture and cuisine.
According to a legend, in 1984 the city was devastated by the floods of the Itajaí-Acu river; then, to motivate citizens to rebuild the city, they came up with the idea of creating this Oktoberfest celebration, which encourages people from all over Brazil to participate in the festivities.
Throughout the streets, there are folk dance groups, bands, parades, and a Queen is crowned. For children, giant rides and sports activities are available at the Kinderplatz stadium.
Just as beer is the star of this festival, traditional German food is also highlighted. The day begins with a white sausage made from veal and bacon, served with typical German breads. Later, lunch features delicious roasted chicken, roasted pork knuckle, duck burgers, or duck thighs with fries, onions, and apples.
And of course, all accompanied by exquisite craft beers, which delight every palate. Over a century ago, the recipes for brewing beers were brought by the first Germans who arrived in this region of Brazil, and Blumenau became a hub for tasting different types of beer.
